What is the ladder?
We started the ladder in 2020 as a way for our members to get to know each other and, especially for newer members, to give them a reason to contact someone that they may have never met, to challenge them to a match. The overall concept of the ladder is to work your way up the ladder with the aim of reaching the top of the ladder by the end of the season. There is no trophy - no prize - no big deal. You do this just for the glory!
Players challenge someone above them in the ladder to a match (within strict guidelines) and if the challenger wins, they switch places with their opponent. If the opponent wins, each player stays in the same position.
We start the ladder by taking all participants in each group (A, B, or C) and doing a random draw for starting positions. Every ladder member will receive the contact details of all other ladder members, so that they can organise matches between themselves. You use the booking.prestburybc@gmail.com email address to register your challenge (after having agreed a date with your opponent). Once you've played your match, you use the same email address to let us know the result - we don't want, or record, the actual scores - we just need to know who won the match. On our Ladder webpage, there are a number of links to: 'To Join - Email here'; 'Register a Challenge'; and 'Report a Result'. We also have comprehensive guidelines as to how the match is conducted and who you may challenge at any given point. The ladder will be updated at least every evening, often throughout the day.
In order to keep the ladder active we ask that you play your matches within a reasonable time (preferably within a week of the challenge). If you are going to be away, or if you have an injury which prevents you from playing for a certain time, let us know and we will designate you as 'unavailable' thereby allowing other members to 'skip' over you when they are considering who they may challenge. Full details of how this all works, including a full page of a sample ladder showing who may challenge whom and who may be challenged by whoever else, is included in the Ladder Guidelines.
Above all, we hope that you will enjoy just being out and playing and getting to know more of your fellow members.
