Green Closure Dates

Those of you that have already read the recent Members Newsletter will already know that we have planned some important work on our green to help it recover from the damage it suffered during the long hot dry spells through April, May and June. We can now update on when the work will take place, and therefore when the green will be closed. Details as follows:

 

The initial stage is to scarify the green. This helps to remove a lot of the dead ‘thatch’ bedded in the top layer of our green. This work takes place on Tuesday 29th July. We can still bowl on the green after this, even though the surface will be a bit rough.

 

After the Brian Jagger Challenge Cup on Saturday (2nd), the green will then close as follows:

 

• Green Closed: Sunday, 3rd August through to Friday, 8th August, inclusive. (6 days in total)

 

During the green closure dates, the work on the green will include ‘Coring’ (this is removing some deep plugs from the green) followed by the application of a full top dressing with fertiliser and reseeding, which will be brushed in to the green. If all goes to plan we will re-open the green on Saturday, 9th August. We should start to see some improvements in the green after the seeds start to germinate through mid-August and beyond.

 

This process will be repeated in September, to help ensure that we go into the winter break with the green well progressed on the road to recovery.​​
