Reds & Blues Competition 2025

A message from Club Captain, David Freeth - 3 June 2025

To All members on my Reds/Blues list

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone that participated in these practice sessions.

We had 12 sessions and the level of support was as good as ever with 46 members participating. Geoff Hiscott played the most - 10 of the 12 and Jayne Roberts won the most - 7 out of 9.

I have posted a summary of the sessions on the noticeboard showing number of games played and won.

Overall there were 99 games, the Reds won 55, the Blues 44 but the Blues were 11 points ahead after the final session - 1180 points versus 1169 points. So I think we can say you were all winners!
A few of you needed to change colour for some sessions to ensure everyone that attended a session had a game.

In my mind a major benefit of these sessions is the opportunity to play with other members at all levels of bowling ability and get to know each other.
On that basis one of my aims was that you didn't play the same person twice and I nearly achieved it with only 6 of you in 3 of the games having to do so.

A message from Club Captain David Freeth - March 2025

To ALL members but especially those of you that played in the Reds/Blues in the past AND
members that joined in last few years.

The Reds/Blues sessions last season were again popular and I am proposing to schedule them again this season with the hope that even more members will take advantage of them to practice,
both team AND non-team players.

If you are recent new members, you may not be aware of these, so let me explain.
As it says, they are PRACTICE SESSIONS where members play a one-to-one match of 15up with another member who I consider to be at the same point on their bowling ‘journey’ – so no pressure!
When I know how many members wish to participate I allocate you to either the Red or Blue team and then depending on who wishes to play in each session decide the pairings.
This way you get experience of match play and how it can enhance your enjoyment of playing bowls.

Hopefully the weather will allow the green to open on the 15th March and I am scheduling the Reds/Blues practice sessions for this season through to the end of May - 12 in all.
